Aussies plan to shop Amazon Prime Day sales

Millions of Australians are hoping to bag a bargain during this year's Amazon Prime Day sales, according to new research by Finder.
According to Finder’s Amazon Prime Day Shopping Report, a survey of 1,007 Australian internet users, 15% of Australians – equivalent to over 3 million people – plan to shop this year's Amazon Prime Day sales.
The most popular category to shop for is make-up and skincare, with about 5% of Aussies planning to purchase these products.
Tegan Jones, shopping expert at Finder, encouraged Aussies to think wisely before splashing their cash.
“It’s a good idea to have a list of products in mind before you get started, that way you know what you need and you aren’t as likely to get carried away.
“Given Prime Day sales are a virtual event, a great way to do this is to add the products to your Amazon favorite list ahead of time.
“Once the sales kick off, you can easily see which products are discounted and go ahead and add those to your cart,” Jones said.
Interestingly, 4% of people say they’ll buy clothing and accessories, while 3% are in the market for products for the home, for example soft furnishings and home decor.
Younger Aussies are the most likely to say they’ll shop the sales.
A whopping 21% of those aged 18-34 plan to splurge, while just 13% of those aged 35-54 and 12% of those aged 55+ say the same.
Finder’s research shows more men (16%) plan to shop than women (14%).
Jones encouraged Australians to compare items across retailers before making a purchase.
“Other retailers are aware of the impact Amazon has had on the local marketplace.
“Don't be surprised to see even more competitive prices on offer from other online stores during the Prime Day sale,” she said.
